The Temple of the Light
The Temple of the Light holds the concentration of government and religion for the land of Bouvet. The Temple proper exists on an island several hundred miles off the coast, which houses the sacred texts and relics as well as being the home of the Light Warden. The Warden communicates to the mainland through a system of mirrors, prisms, and telescopes that reflect and refract light to the Lighthouse in Long Fall. From there, his words are disseminated by the High Beacon to the town and the other settlements.
The Temple of the Light worships the sun, whom they name Astrid, though some texts use the name Pelor. In the harsh climate, with difficult growing conditions, the sun provides warmth and sustains crops. The Temple was erected on the island as its northern position provides it with more sunlight than the mainland, making it closer to god. Physically, the island is the dome of a fallen volcano and the Temple is a walled village rather than a single building.
