The Lighthouse is a stone spire with vertical rooms, each taking an entire floor. The building is by far the largest in Long Fall: built from large, dirt-colored stone, the ground level is forty feet on each side and the building slowly tapers to a room ten feet on each side. The first floor you enter is the church, a large nave with wooden pews facing away from the door, towards an altar set beneath a large circular window of yellow glass looking over the cliff edge. You ascend seven stories up the winding stairs that ring the wall.
The top is the Light Room, where the Astrid Candle is kept. The candle has a 6 in. diameter and starts at nearly 5 ft. tall so it burns for a month. The candle is relit by a system of mirrors that directs a concentrated sunbeam from the Temple of Light. Outlying settlements each maintain a Church with its own candle; however, they are allowed to light each month’s candle with the dying light of the previous month’s and come to Long Fall to have a candle lit at the beginning of each new year.
